Klara went to the vet today for an ultrasound to see if she’s pregnant. Major disappointment in finding out no puppies were visible. We were sooooo excited about having a litter this year. What a low!
Hopefully, better luck next time.

One of the things I like doing for relaxation is surfing around the Poodle Pedigree database - more fun than watching sitcoms for me!
Anyways, I just found out that Klara’s pedigree has a very significant ancestor - AM/ENG/FR/SW CH Nunsoe Duc De La Terrace Of Blakeen. He was the first Poodle to win Westminster! Check it out at Poodle Pedigree. Here’s another side note about it from Time Magazine. and also a picture of “Duc”. Now I know where Klara gets her cream colored gene and her jumping abilities!
Klara has been bred to Sammy - aka AM/CAN/UKC/INT BIS & BIMBS CH Pinafore First Edition Midori.
As you can see by his titles, Sammy is a very accomplished dog in the show ring. Everything I’ve heard about Sammy is just wonderful. Not only does he possess an outstanding breed conformation, he has a wonderfully energetic and friendly personality. To top it off, Sammy is said to be very athletic. Undoubtedly, the litter will produce some fantastic performance dogs.
For anyone interested in the pedigree, you can check out the litter’s pedigree at www.poodlepedigree.com
We’ll find out if Klara is positively pregnant at the end of September by doing an ultra-sound test. If she is pregnant, puppies will be whelped around Halloween with puppies ready for their new homes at the first of the year - 2011. All the puppies are expected to be black.
The Poodle girls, Klara and Ilsa had great fun camping along Rowleys Bay at the Wagon Trail Camp ground.
Door County (Wisconsin, USA) is a paradise for outdoor activities. From hiking in the woods and swimming in Lake Michigan to taking in the sunset over Green Bay or shopping in the quaint villages, there’s something for every taste.
Be sure to try the world renowned cherries!

Comfort food

Feasting on gruel
The puppies started the weaning process by getting a watery gruel of mashed puppy chow. After the second time seeing the feeding bowl, all the puppies are taking after their mother - never missing a meal or morsel of food.

Klara with her six puppies
After pacing, panting, and generally being annoyingly restless all day, Klara whelped six black puppies. Three boys, three girls are all healthy and Klara is doing well, too. She’s being a very good mom. Average weight of the pups was about 10 oz which is what I’d expect as Klara and Mick (sire Ch Nightwind Paint It Black) are medium sized Std. Poodles.
On Friday, Klara earned a qualifying score in Excellent B Jumpers. Her first “leg” towards her MXJ title. She did this in the very friendly confines of the Oshkosh Kennel Club.
Now, to work on her contact obstacle performance!
Patty and I both agree that Klara is starting to show signs of being pregnant. She’s ever so slightly bulging in the belly.
Klara was bathed and groomed on Monday. She has to look pretty for the Agility Trial in Oshkosh this coming weekend. Here’s a picture of Klara relaxing while on the grooming table.
Klara earned her AX and AXJ titles last weekend during the Wisconsin Rapids Kennel Club’s Agility Trial at Camp Bandy in Amherst Junction, WI. AX means Agility Excellent and AXJ is Agility Excellent Jumpers. Earning these titles means she will be able to start competing for MACH points. MACH stands for Master Agility Champion. The ultimate title in AKC Agility! Klara is a pretty young dog to achieve the AX & AXJ titles. She is only 2 and one half years old.
