Twine Ball Museum

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Twine Ball MuseumOn the way home from visiting the very friendly folks at Degana Poodles, we stopped in Darwin, MN to see the Twine Ball Museum. Its a Nationally renowned treasure. We met a young couple that drove out from New Jersey there. Since we got there so late, the museum was unfortunately closed. The Twine Ball is visible at all hours as it is housed in a glassed in gazebo.

Stayed tuned for more info about our visit to Degana Poodles. Here’s a hint: Orchid and Eliot had a “good time”.

Orchid’s first Agility title

Monday, September 19th, 2011

New TitleOrchid earned her first Agility Title, Novice Jumpers with Weaves, today shown under Rhonda Crane at the Manitowoc Kennel Club’s trial. Now we can put NAJ after her name. The requirements to earn the Novice Agility Jumpers title is three qualifying runs under two different judges. Orchid did that in four tries with a first place every time she qualified. She has a ways to go for the Standard title. Orchid is a fast running, high jumping Poodle that doesn’t want to slow down for the contact obstacles!

Here’s a youtube video of Orchid doing the weaves.

Yay! Orchid is CHIC girl!

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

My first home bred puppy passed all her genetic tests and health screenings and became a CHIC girl - # 75357. You can check her out at OFA.org

Passing all these tests is a prerequisite to breeding and increases the likelihood of having healthy puppies. In addition to passing the health screenings, its important to have outside people give their opinions on the worthiness of the dog. So, not only should a dog evaluated for conformation its temperament should be tested. Proof of a good Poodle attitude is Agility, Obedience, or Hunting. Orchid starts her Agility career in earnest on September 16 at the Manitowoc Kennel Club trial. Soon we’ll look for a suitable stud for Orchid - aka Ch. Gladystar Obsidian Flower

Orchids first Agility “Q”

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Blue RibbonOrchid earned her first AKC Agility Standard “leg” at the recent Fond du Lac Kennel Club trial. We weren’t quite ready for competition with my foot still not healed up completely from surgery and Orchid not fully versed on all the equipment.

Everyone commented on Orchid’s enthusiasm and speed. If I could’ve kept up with her at the end of the Jumpers course, she would’ve had a Double Q. Agility really is a team sport.

Orchid - CHAMPION!

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Orchid earned her championship last weekend at the Sioux Empire Kennel Club shows in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She went Winners Bitch both days each of which was a three point major. Thank you Terri Meyers for handling Orchid. Terri was assisted by Kris Gerdesmeier and Lori Logli. I’m thrilled to have Orchid back home to continue her Agility career.

Orchid’s AKC registered name is CH Gladystar Obsidian Flower.
